The Valley Of Eternity

Somewhere across the valley of eternity lies a broken promise of proximity
A stubborn flame fighting a fierce tempest
A lifetime’s struggle against a moment’s conquest

The mirage of fulfillment
The myth of sanity
A stricken heart wallowing in its own vanity
Soaked in the summer sun
Drenched in the winter snow
Nothing gained by an everlasting wait but just a few more scars to show

In the deep recesses of a lonesome night
There again rises a sibilant cry
Impossible as it may be to merge with the wind
The inveterate soul never ceases to try

Once in the distant past a promise was made
To meet again in a lost land before farewell was bade
And an untiring love keeps searching for that elusive serendipity

For somewhere across the valley of eternity lies that broken promise of proximity
